DUNHILL
0003 -

GMT limited edition FP Mint,
The famous Dunhill Company of
England crafts this fountain pen, of a limited edition of
only 1884. The number 1884 is significant because this is the year that
Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) was created. From this date, GMT defined world time.
Greenwich is defined as the meridian or 0 degrees with the rest of the world
divided into separate time zones.
To celebrate this, Dunhill created
a very limited collection of four commemorative pieces. This pen stands out not
only for its beauty but also for the superb craftsmanship that has created it
which photographs cannot do justice to. The main body of the pen is crafted
from heavyweight stainless steel. An engraved red line runs down the centre
line of the pen to signify GMT. A bezel is fitted, which when turned to the
relevant marked city identifies how far or behind the time zone is in this
city. The top of the pen cap has a blue/white cabochon, which represents the
earth viewed from space. It is possible to turn the top of the pen which
adjusts the position of the pocket clip so that it fits flush into the pen or
protrudes to allow easy clipping.
The Pen cap is engraved with
Alfred Dunhill and the limited edition number. The nib is medium size and
created from pure 18-carat gold. The pen also features a piston feeder system,
which was developed to provide an exceptionally even ink flow at any altitude.
The pen is totally mint with no
marks or scratches, but I don’t have the box and papers. This is a unique
opportunity to acquire a very collectable and rare pen from an exceptional
manufacturer. When this pen was created in 1996, it retailed for £499.00
